The warm, south-facing slope of red and yellow sandstone yields Lukas's most powerful and fullest Riesling, which nevertheless retains the straight acidity that is the house's trademark.<\/p>\n<p>Lukas Hammelmann founded his small wine estate in Zeiskam, in the southern Pfalz, in 2016, coming from a family with no previous connection to winemaking. He farms just under five hectares in three villages \u2013 Zeiskam, Hochstadt and Neustadt-Hambach \u2013 and makes wine from only three varieties: Riesling, Chardonnay and Sp\u00e4tburgunder.<\/p>\n<h3>Winemaking:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Variety: Riesling 100% \u2013 single-vineyard wine<\/li>\n<li>Soil: red and yellow sandstone (Buntsandstein)<\/li>\n<li>Hand-harvested, spontaneous fermentation in wooden casks<\/li>\n<li>24 months on the lees, natural malolactic fermentation, bottled unfiltered<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol 12.5%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tasting notes:<\/h3>\n<p>Ripe yellow fruit, citrus peel, spices and smoky minerality. Dry, powerful and focused, with a very long finish. Decanting recommended.<\/p>\n<h3>Food pairing:<\/h3>\n<p>Refined fish dishes, lobster, duck breast, veal and mature cheeses.<\/p>\n<h3>Ageing potential:<\/h3>\n<p>Best 2027\u20132036.
