3M2N Lukas Hammelmann

Lukas Hammelmann didn't inherit a wine estate – he built one himself. His family has no connection to winegrowing, but the dream of becoming a winemaker stayed with him from childhood, and in 2016 he started with a single Riesling plot in his home village of Zeiskam in southern Pfalz.

Producer story

Today he farms just under five hectares in three places – Zeiskam, the neighbouring village of Hochstadt and the historic slopes of Neustadt-Hambach – and works with only three grapes: Riesling, Chardonnay and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). All grapes are picked by hand, ferment spontaneously in wooden barrels and are mostly bottled unfiltered. The vineyards are farmed organically but without certification – "I don't do it for marketing."

Around 30,000 bottles are made each year, 80% of which is exported to ten countries. In 2023 VINUM Weinguide Deutschland named him its discovery of the year.
