The wine's story:
„Aus den Dörfern” – “from the villages” – is Hammelmann’s village-level range; the letter Z stands for Zeiskam, Lukas’s home. Zeiskam’s mix of sandstone, clay and loess gives Riesling softer fruit and a broader mid-palate than lime-rich Hochstadt, but citrus and a greenish herbal note always remain central. The wine is bottled unfiltered, so there may be a slight haze in the bottle – this is natural. Try it side by side with Riesling H: the same variety, the same cellar work, two different villages.
Lukas Hammelmann founded his small wine estate in Zeiskam, in the southern Pfalz, in 2016, coming from a family with no previous connection to winemaking. He farms just under five hectares in three villages – Zeiskam, Hochstadt and Neustadt-Hambach – and makes wine from only three varieties: Riesling, Chardonnay and Spätburgunder.
