The wine's story:

MG BB Nature is Michel Genet's signature-style Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne, made solely from Chardonnay grapes on the chalky slopes of the Grand Cru village of Chouilly – in the heart of Champagne's Côte des Blancs.

Michel Genet is a family business, today run by Michel Genet’s children – Vincent, Agnès and Antoine. They are known as "Manufacteurs de Grands Crus", or master craftsmen, personally involved in every stage of production, from growing the grapes to ageing in the cellar. The grapes come from the house’s own ~9 hectares of vineyards, where Chardonnay accounts for 95%. All work is done in harmony with nature: organic fertilisers are used, pesticides are kept to a minimum and each vineyard plot is managed separately to preserve the character of its terroir.

Winemaking:

For MG BB Nature, the grapes are vinified separately according to their plot of origin. All winemaking takes place in Michel Genet’s own cellars, following the highest quality standards. After the first clarification in January, the wines undergo malolactic fermentation on the fine lees, which gives the wine softness and depth.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel or neutral vessels to preserve the pure character of the Chardonnay. The Champagne is a multi-vintage blend with a significant proportion of reserve wines to add maturity and layering. The wine is then bottled and aged on its lees according to the traditional method. The dosage is extremely low – 2.5 g/l, which places it in the category of Brut Nature , or completely dry Champagne.

Tasting notes:

In the glass the wine is pale yellow with a golden hue, and the mousse is fine and persistent. On the nose there are flowers and cereals – acacia, wild flowers, violet, wheat and a delicate menthol or liquorice note. In the background there are toasted almonds, hazelnuts and chalky minerality.

On the palate the Champagne is dry and precise, yet surprisingly creamy in texture. At first there are citrus and white stone-fruit notes – lemon zest, green apple, white peach. Mid-palate, brioche and meringue-like nuances develop alongside freshly toasted almond and baking spices. The finish is long and fresh, revealing exotic fruits such as pineapple and yellow plum, joined by saline, chalky minerality.

Food pairing:

MG BB Nature pairs superbly with classic fresh seafood such as oysters, caviar, sashimi, because its saline, chalky structure and vibrant acidity bring out the sweetness of the seafood. It also pairs well with soft goat’s cheese (e.g. Crottin de Chavignol), vegetable starters, ceviche and white fish. A good choice, too, with lighter Asian dishes such as Vietnamese spring rolls, sushi or salmon lightly marinated in lime. The Champagne’s elegance also suits delicate poultry dishes and lightly pan-fried seafood.

Ageing potential:

Thanks to its low dosage and Grand Cru origin, this Champagne can be enjoyed both young and for ageing over 5–6 years after disgorgement. Over the years, notes of brioche, roasted nuts and dried fruit develop, while the mineral backbone remains. Best drinking window: now until 2028.

Champagne Michel Genet is a family estate in the heart of Champagne – in the prestigious Grand Cru village of Chouilly, right next to Épernay. Here, on the chalky slopes of the Côte des Blancs, some of the region's purest and most elegant Blanc de Blancs Champagnes are made. The domaine was founded by Michel Genet in the last century and is now run by his children – Vincent, Agnès and Antoine Genet. They proudly call themselves "Manufacteurs de Grands Crus": true craftspeople who are personally involved in every bottle from start to finish, from growing the grapes to ageing the wine in the cellar. Their vines cover about 9 hectares, 95% of which is Chardonnay – the grape that connects most deeply with the distinctive chalk soils of the Côte des Blancs. Michel Genet Champagnes are marked by clear minerality, purity and structure – wines that speak to sommeliers and curious wine lovers alike. The vineyards are farmed as close to nature as possible – organic fertilisers, no chemical pesticides and respect for the terroir in every vine. All grapes are picked by hand and gently pressed, and each plot is vinified separately to keep its unique character. In the Genet cellar the Champagnes go through malolactic fermentation on the lees, which gives roundness and depth. Ageing is long – the bottles rest on their lees for several years for greater elegance, complexity and a finer mousse. Michel Genet is not a volume producer – the Champagnes are made in small quantities with great attention to detail. The result is Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs that holds its own next to the famous big houses, but with a sincere and personal signature – a precise expression of the chalky slopes of Chouilly, the clear elegance of Chardonnay and the growers' craft.
