The wine's story:
Com Tu 2022 continues the Barbier brothers' mission to create an approachable Montsant Garnacha of real depth and character. 2022 was a warmer vintage, but careful viticulture kept the wines balanced and fresh. Com Tu is more than a wine – it symbolises family, unity and love. It is often called “Espectacle's little brother”, yet Com Tu 2022 offers an authentic expression of Montsant terroir, delivering excellent quality from smaller production at a more affordable price than its Priorat relative.
Winemaking:
- 100% Garnacha; the grapes were picked slightly earlier in 2022 to preserve freshness.
- Fermented in concrete; 5–7 days of cold soak, followed by ~2 weeks of fermentation with gentle pump-overs.
- Malolactic fermentation and 10 months’ ageing in concrete and used French oak barrels.
- Bottled in spring 2023.
- Alcohol: ~13.5%.
- ~15,000 bottles produced.
Ageing potential:
Best enjoyed within 3–5 years. Drink now until 2027 to bring out its youthful fruitiness. It can last longer, but the wine is made for early enjoyment and pleasure. (The first vintage, 2015, is still in good shape after 8 years, showing that Com Tu can age, but its style favours drinking young.)
Tasting notes:
Bright ruby red in colour. On the nose, fresh red berries (raspberry, redcurrant) and sweet spices. A delicate floral note (lilac) and a balsamic hint (Mediterranean scrub) add depth. Soft and juicy on the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with silky tannins. Crushed strawberries, cherry preserve, pepper and cocoa come together in harmony. Mineral freshness and acidity keep the wine lively. The finish is fruity and herbal, ending on a delicate note of cherry and Mediterranean herbs. Slightly riper than the 2021, with a rounder texture, yet still easy to enjoy and elegant.
Food pairing:
A versatile, convivial wine that pairs with many dishes:
- Spanish cuisine: arroz caldoso (a soupy rice dish with rabbit or chicken), grilled vegetables with olive oil.
- Pasta: wild mushroom ravioli, spaghetti amatriciana.
- Tapas: patatas bravas, albóndigas (meatballs), charcuterie.
- Asian dishes: moderately spicy food such as pork dumplings or Korean BBQ, where the wine’s fruitiness balances the spice.
