Sara i René Viticultors

Sara i René Viticultors is the joint winery of Sara Pérez and René Barbier Meyer in Priorat, in the village of Gratallops. Both come from the families that founded Priorat's new era: Sara's father José Luis Pérez founded Mas Martinet and René's father René Barbier founded Clos Mogador – both among the late-1980s "Priorat five" who put the region on the world wine map. Sara also runs Mas Martinet today, and the couple founded Venus La Universal in Montsant.

Producer story

The heart of the project is Partida Bellvisos near Gratallops – about 4 hectares of old vines, three plots of which had been abandoned for almost 30 years before restoration began in 2002. The old, resilient vines were not replaced but carefully brought back to life. The soil is Priorat's characteristic slate, llicorella.

The vineyard is farmed to organic and agroecological principles, aiming to express each small plot as honestly as possible. They grow Garnatxa, Garnatxa Peluda, Carinyena, Garnatxa Blanca and Macabeu; the Pedrer plot also has Monastrell, rare in Priorat. Fermentation starts with a pied de cuve from local yeasts and the wines age in used oak barrels.

The range includes Partida Bellvisos red and white and Partida Pedrer red and rosé. The wines have received 95+ and 96+ points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
