El Álamo Añina is a vino de pasto made in exceptionally limited quantities from the historic Añina growing area, combining depth, the finesse of flor and a strong Atlantic influence.

The wine's story:

This wine comes from a historic vineyard previously also used for older Jerez styles. Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibáñez see El Álamo in Añina as a place that deserves its own voice rather than being dissolved into a larger blending system. The wine is at once very local and very contemporary: it draws on a wealth of old knowledge but presents it in the logic of a modern terroir wine. El Álamo does not come across as a demonstration, but as a serious white wine that shows how far Jerez can go even without fortification and the pressure of categories.

Winemaking:

This is an unfortified vino de pasto from Añina’s historic albariza site. The wine has more flor influence than many others in this category, which helps preserve finesse and balance in a hotter vintage. The approach is very precise, aimed at carrying both the site’s concentration and its maritime freshness through to the final result. Production is very small, and this is a wine whose character is defined above all by the place itself.

Tasting notes:

On the nose: sea, curry spice, salt, white pepper, dried herbs and a fine nutty nuance. On the palate dry, deep and very saline, yet at the same time fine and long. The wine has both concentration and freshness, which hold together in a rarely natural way. The finish is long, spicy and maritime.

Food pairing:

Pairs with oysters, seafood stews, grilled clams, sole, fish broths and saffron dishes. Also very good with dishes that combine marine salinity with texture.

Ageing potential:

Best within 5–10 years. It can develop in very interesting ways, becoming even calmer and more layered with time.

Bodegas De La Riva is a joint project of Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibáñez, aimed at restoring the meaning of Jerez's older wines, historic vineyard sites and small-batch wines. While Luis Pérez and Ramiro each make terroir-driven wines under their own names, De La Riva lets their two approaches meet even more freely: old soleras, single casks, historical references and very carefully chosen pagos. The wines are made in small quantities, often outside the usual mass-produced sherry logic, and emphasise place, ageing and the old flavour ideals of Jerez. De La Riva wines are mostly serious, layered and highly individual.
