The wine's story:

Présence is Marie Courtin’s quietest, most nuanced and most meditative white cuvée — a wine that does not seek to dominate but focuses on a calm presence in the moment. Dominique Moreau created this cuvée to express the “quiet energy” of her vineyard: a texture that never raises its voice and an aromatic depth that unfolds slowly and with dignity.

The 2022 grapes come from two vineyards of very different character:
Chardonnay grows on Portlandian limestone and on a south-facing slope, which gives the wine ripeness, sunniness and elegant fruit.
Pinot Blanc comes from Kimmeridgian limestone and from an east-facing slope, which gives the wine freshness, a mineral backbone and delicate floral nuances.
This harmony of two styles is precisely Présence uniqueness — a harmony that is never overblown or technical, but natural and balanced.

Winemaking:

Composition: 70% Chardonnay + 30% Pinot Blanc
Vine age: ~20 years
Ageing: biodynamic (Demeter)

Vinification:
– fermentation in enamelled steel tanks (enameled steel tanks) — a neutral environment that adds no flavours
– maturation in enamelled steel tanks for 5 years (a very long period without oak influence)
– SO₂: are not added (zero added sulphites)
– racking: yes
– no fining or filtration
– dosage: Extra Brut

The use of enamelled steel tanks is extremely rare for Champagne — it gives the wine exceptional purity and precision, along with a calm maturation that creates a soft, elegant texture.

Tasting notes:

On the nose, white peach, pear, apple peel, lemon zest, white blossom, acacia and a light almond nuance.
On the palate the wine is airy and clean-lined: fresh citrus energy at first, followed by a soft layer of fruit and a long, saline limestone minerality.
Chardonnay provides an elegant, aristocratic framework; Pinot Blanc adds juiciness, floral notes and delicate spice.
The finish is long, calm and very clean, with a slightly almondy final note.

Présence is a wine above all for those who value quietness and finesse in Champagne — this is “quiet luxury”.

Food pairing:

• oysters, scallops and light seafood
• white fish tartare, ceviche, sushi
• asparagus dishes or artichoke risotto
• ricotta, burrata, fresh goat’s cheese
• creamy sea bass or cod
• pasta with a light lemon cream or vegetables in a ginger-citrus marinade

This is an ideal Champagne for dishes that need a subtle, non-dominant partner.

Ageing potential:

2024–2030+
As it develops, nuances of dried flowers, toasted almond, brioche and ripe pear emerge, yet the wine always retains its clear, limestone core.

Champagne Marie-Courtin is one of the most distinctive small producers of the Côte des Bar – a 2.5-hectare biodynamic domaine run by the charismatic vigneronne Dominique Moreau. It is named after Dominique's grandmother, symbolising feminine strength, closeness to the land and an intuitive approach to nature – the principles at the heart of the Marie-Courtin style. The vines in the village of Polisot grow on Kimmeridgian limestone, the same kind of soil that gives the great wines of Chablis their mineral backbone. Most of the vineyard consists of older massal-selection vines that give small but exceptionally concentrated crops. Dominique works fully to organic and biodynamic principles (Demeter), using only the yeasts from her own vineyard and avoiding added sugar or any stylistic "cosmetics". Marie-Courtin's philosophy is "one plot, one grape, one vintage" – each cuvée is a single, unrepeatable reflection of a specific part of the vineyard and a specific year. The result is exceptionally pure, precise and tense Champagnes with bright acidity, salty minerality and deep energy. Pinot Noir shows itself here as both powerful and airy, sometimes almost flinty, with notes of chalk and wet stone. Dominique's wines (Résonance, Efflorescence, Concordance, Éloquence and others) have received high scores from international critics for their focus, unusual purity and the courage to let the terroir speak. These Champagnes are not meant only as an aperitif – they are gastronomic wines with character, best served in a white wine glass, and they can keep developing after opening. Today Marie-Courtin is one of the most influential biodynamic producers of the Côte des Bar, whose small cuvées are highly valued by sommeliers for their uncompromising honesty and terroir-driven precision.
