The wine's story:

Résonance is one of those Champagnes that shows very clearly why, over the past decade, the Côte des Bar has risen grower Champagne among the world’s cult regions. Dominique Moreau tends her small 2.5-hectare vineyard like a garden – by hand, biodynamically, without any additives or technological embellishment. Her aim is not to make a universal, safely rounded Champagne, but to capture the moment when nature, soil and the year’s weather „tune in“ to the same wavelength. Hence the name Résonance: the idea that the wine carries forward the rhythm of the soil, the cycles of biodynamic work and the natural energy of the grape.

Résonance comes from a vineyard on very calcareous Kimmeridgian soil – the same rock that gives Chablis its famous saline, chalky character. The Pinot Noir grapes that grow here are ripe but not heavy; aromatic but not sweet. It is one of the purest expressions of Pinot Noir in the whole Aube: intense, precise and naturally elegant.

Winemaking:

Composition: 100% Pinot Noir
Vine age: ~25 years
Soil: Kimmeridgian limestone (the same as in Chablis)
Site: east-facing slope
Ageing: biodynamic

Vinification:
• no destemming
• no maceration (a white wine from red grapes)
• fermentation in stainless steel tanks (steel tanks) — with no wood influence
• maturation in stainless steel tanks
• ageing time: 3 years on the lees
• racking: yes
• not fined or filtered
• SO₂: used in small amounts (technical, not stylistic)
• dosage: Extra Brut

Every technical step is aimed at letting the Pinot Noir express itself as clearly as possible — without heaviness or excessive intervention.

Tasting notes:

On the nose: red apple, ripe wild strawberry, fresh cherry, a light citrus note and a delicate aroma of white flowers. In the background there is a mineral “chalk powder” and a light peppery nuance stemming from the limestone soil.
On the palate the wine is lively and clearly defined: red berries, citrus, limestone salinity and precise, rhythmic acidity.
The texture is long and silky, with a vibrancy that is the signature of the Marie-Courtin style.
The finish is dry, long and aromatically pure.

Résonance is a Champagne that feels both fresh and deep at once — energetic, yet with a soft edge.

Food pairing:

• oysters and other shellfish
• sushi, sashimi, white fish tartare
• fresh goat's cheese (chèvre), burrata, ricotta
• lemon-baked trout or sea bass
• spring vegetables (asparagus, pea purée, kohlrabi)
• light pasta dishes with lemon or herb butter

This is a superb “all-purpose Champagne” that goes with a wide variety of dishes without overpowering anything.

Ageing potential:

2024–2030
As it develops, notes of brioche, nuts and delicate dried fruit emerge, while the limestone structure remains clearly perceptible.

Champagne Marie-Courtin is one of the most distinctive small producers of the Côte des Bar – a 2.5-hectare biodynamic domaine run by the charismatic vigneronne Dominique Moreau. It is named after Dominique's grandmother, symbolising feminine strength, closeness to the land and an intuitive approach to nature – the principles at the heart of the Marie-Courtin style. The vines in the village of Polisot grow on Kimmeridgian limestone, the same kind of soil that gives the great wines of Chablis their mineral backbone. Most of the vineyard consists of older massal-selection vines that give small but exceptionally concentrated crops. Dominique works fully to organic and biodynamic principles (Demeter), using only the yeasts from her own vineyard and avoiding added sugar or any stylistic "cosmetics". Marie-Courtin's philosophy is "one plot, one grape, one vintage" – each cuvée is a single, unrepeatable reflection of a specific part of the vineyard and a specific year. The result is exceptionally pure, precise and tense Champagnes with bright acidity, salty minerality and deep energy. Pinot Noir shows itself here as both powerful and airy, sometimes almost flinty, with notes of chalk and wet stone. Dominique's wines (Résonance, Efflorescence, Concordance, Éloquence and others) have received high scores from international critics for their focus, unusual purity and the courage to let the terroir speak. These Champagnes are not meant only as an aperitif – they are gastronomic wines with character, best served in a white wine glass, and they can keep developing after opening. Today Marie-Courtin is one of the most influential biodynamic producers of the Côte des Bar, whose small cuvées are highly valued by sommeliers for their uncompromising honesty and terroir-driven precision.
