The wine's story:

BD’M (“Blanc de Meunier”) is the house of Bourgeois-Diaz’s interpretation of the Vallée de la Marne’s principal grape – Meunier. This variety is the most characteristic of the region yet often underrated, and it is here that it achieves exceptional expressive power.
The wine comes from the oldest Meunier vineyards in Crouttes-sur-Marne, where the vines are 40–50 years old. Thanks to deep root systems and biodynamic farming, Meunier yields ripe, concentrated grapes capable of expressing both power and elegance. BD’M was created to show that Meunier can stand as an independent, full-blooded Champagne alongside the other varieties.

Winemaking:

Composition: 100% Pinot Meunier.
The grapes are hand-picked and pressed in a traditional Coquard press. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in small, used oak barrels.
Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, without intervention.
After the primary fermentation, the wine matures in bottle on its lees for approximately 36 months before disgorgement.
Dosage: 0 g/l – Brut Nature.
Sulphite levels are minimal (below 25 mg/l).

Tasting notes:

The nose shows ripe yellow apples, pear and peach, joined by tones of brioche, hazelnut and a light smoky nuance. On the palate the wine is full and juicy, expressing ripe fruit within a mineral and saline framework. The texture is creamy, the acidity lively and precise. The finish is long, dry and clear – a sign of the depth of old Meunier vines.

Food pairing:

BD’M is a superb match for pan-fried or grilled white fish, roasted vegetables and poultry. It also complements wild mushroom risotto or older, harder cheeses (e.g. Gruyère, Comté).

Ageing potential:

Best enjoyed within 2–6 years of disgorgement. Thanks to its firm structure and low dosage, BD’M will develop well for a further 8 years, taking on nutty and toasty notes.

Champagne Bourgeois-Diaz is a small family Champagne house in Crouttes-sur-Marne in the Vallée de la Marne. The vineyards cover about 7 hectares: around 3.5 ha of Meunier, 2 ha of Pinot Noir and 1 ha of Chardonnay. The vines grow mostly on clay and limestone soils and average 40 years of age. The estate is run by Jérôme Bourgeois-Diaz, who has taken the whole production to organic and biodynamic farming (Demeter certified). No herbicides or synthetic fertilisers are used; the focus is on living soils and biodiversity. A traditional Coquard press is used in the cellar. Each grape variety and site is vinified separately with natural yeasts only. Most wines go through malolactic fermentation and age for a long time on the lees for texture and balance. The Champagnes are mostly bottled as Brut Nature or Extra Brut to emphasise the purity of the terroir and an energetic style. Bourgeois-Diaz wines are known for their precise structure, distinctive minerality and expressive Meunier, reflecting the strength of the clay-limestone soils of the Marne Valley's northern terraces.
