Champagne Marie-Courtin

Champagne Marie-Courtin is one of the most distinctive small producers of the Côte des Bar – a 2.5-hectare biodynamic domaine run by the charismatic vigneronne Dominique Moreau. It is named after Dominique's grandmother, symbolising feminine strength, closeness to the land and an intuitive approach to nature – the principles at the heart of the Marie-Courtin style.

Producer story

The vines in the village of Polisot grow on Kimmeridgian limestone, the same kind of soil that gives the great wines of Chablis their mineral backbone. Most of the vineyard consists of older massal-selection vines that give small but exceptionally concentrated crops. Dominique works fully to organic and biodynamic principles (Demeter), using only the yeasts from her own vineyard and avoiding added sugar or any stylistic "cosmetics".

Marie-Courtin's philosophy is "one plot, one grape, one vintage" – each cuvée is a single, unrepeatable reflection of a specific part of the vineyard and a specific year. The result is exceptionally pure, precise and tense Champagnes with bright acidity, salty minerality and deep energy. Pinot Noir shows itself here as both powerful and airy, sometimes almost flinty, with notes of chalk and wet stone.

Dominique's wines (Résonance, Efflorescence, Concordance, Éloquence and others) have received high scores from international critics for their focus, unusual purity and the courage to let the terroir speak. These Champagnes are not meant only as an aperitif – they are gastronomic wines with character, best served in a white wine glass, and they can keep developing after opening.

Today Marie-Courtin is one of the most influential biodynamic producers of the Côte des Bar, whose small cuvées are highly valued by sommeliers for their uncompromising honesty and terroir-driven precision.
